Ryan Kwanten says he wants Jason to be as real as possible

True Blood’s Ryan Kwanten, who plays Jason Stackhouse, says that he tries to avoid finding out what will happen in True Blood.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Kwanten explained that he wants the reactions of his character Jason to be as real as possible.

I pride myself on being one of the last to know [what will happen] because I almost feel like it hinders my performance to know too much,” he said. “Because Jason very rarely knows what’s happening in the next minute, let alone the next episode. So I like playing it with that kind of spontaneity.”

Kwanten explained that he doesn’t look at the scripts for the show until a week before filming, saying: “It’s the absolute truth. It’s why I stopped reading the [Charlaine Harris] books at book two. It felt like it was getting in the way – I knew too much.

Kwanten’s co-star Sam Trammell recently revealed that filming for the fourth season of True Blood is scheduled to begin this month but Ryan pinpoints it further in the video below as December 1.

True Blood Wins Big At 2010 Spike Scream Awards (Update 10.17.10)

True Blood took home some of the highest honours given out at the 5th annual Spike Scream Awards on Oct 16. I’ll have some more details later but the winners and some comments they made when accepting are below.

QUOTEWORTHY

Alan Ball as he accepted the Best Television Show Award: “One question I get asked a lot is why do people like vampires so much, and I have no f***ing idea.”
Haha. Love Alan Ball. Every time he opens his mouth what he says is quote-worthy.

Steven Moyer as he accepted “Holy Sh!t Scene of the Year” for True Blood – Twisted Sex : “I don’t know what all the fuss is about. Doesn’t everyone have sex like that?”
Steve is another walking quote machine. So witty. And extra super-cute without the vampire makeup.

Among the many stars partaking in the annual Halloween-time event, Alexander Skarsgård made an appearance at Spike TV’s Scream 2010 Awards in Los Angeles, California on Saturday night (October 16). The “True Blood” hunk skipped out on the arrivals carpet at the Greek Theatre venue, but was among those taking the stage – as he ended up winning the Best Horror Actor trophy which was presented to him by Kelly Osbourne. Giving fans plenty of action, the 2010 Scream Awards feature a tribute to the end of “Lost,” the premiere of footage from Scream 4, a 25th-anniversary celebration of Back to the Future and a musical performance by M.I.A. The not-to-be-missed event airs on Spike TV on Tuesday, October 19 at 9PM ET/PT.

Pairing up for a red carpet evening, Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer were side-by-side at Spike TV’s Scream 2010 Awards in Los Angeles, California on Saturday night (October 16). Held at The Greek Theatre, the “True Blood” couple mingled with fellow guests in the arrivals area before taking their seats for the taping of the annual ceremony. Not leaving empty-handed, Mr Moyer took the stage during the course of the night – as he won the Holy Sh*t! Scene Of The Year award. Gossip Center

What it is all about:
“Scream 2010 celebrates the hottest films, TV shows, comics, actors, creators, icons, and pioneers who have influenced and shaped the industry.

Ballots were sent out to Spike TV’s “SCREAM 2010? advisory board, consisting of some of the most respected and well-known members of the horror, sci-fi, fantasy, and comic book worlds, who were responsible for advising on categories and determining nominees in each category. All films, television shows, and comic books were deemed eligible for inclusion if they were released between July 16, 2009, and July 16, 2010, and were representative of the genres listed.

HBO’s “True Blood” had the most nominations of any television series with 10.

Esteemed members of this year’s advisory board include Tim Burton, John Carpenter, Wes Craven, Damon Lindelof, Ridley Scott, Quentin Tarantino, and Joss Whedon.

Look for the televised version on Spike TV on Tuesday, October 19, at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. ”

I’ve been a science fiction and fantasy fan since age 4 (Twilight Zone, Outer Limits) as well as “horror” if it’s done with humour (think Eric Northman of True Blood, season 2 in his dungeon going all primal on a redneck who has just “(done) silver to (him),” then immediately switching gears to consulting with the shackled and terrified Lafayette worrying if his highlights foils got blood in them, fretting that “Pam is going to kill me,” so I think its fantastic that media for this genre is being singled out and recognized for excellence. I hate to complain but I have to state that SPIKE TV needs to become more inclusive about “who” is in their demographic. I’ve read that in the past few years the number of women enjoying the Sci-fi/Fantasy/Horror genre has skyrocketed from 10% to almost 50%. Obviously, True Blood has had a lot to do with this as well as those “other” vamp series both on film and TV (wisely labeled “fantasy” at the Spike Awards).

I never thought that science fiction or fantasy belonged to guys. I just knew that there were not too many girls with my tastes in superheroes, film and television shows. As an adult, other than once a year, I never watch SPIKE TV because they make such a whoop-de-do deal about being for guys. I think they should wise up, look at the female faces in their audience and then take the logical next step. Programming guys, are you listening? Otherwise, I’d like to see a basic cable network that already knows what the girls like, SyFy, pick up the slack and get it’s own awards show going.

The True Blood Blog Closes

Hi fellow Truebies,

As I’ve mentioned before, as True Blood continues to grow both in popularity and cast (and their participation in activities like charity work), I –that would be me, myself and I, have not been able to do justice to the many aspects of keeping The True Blood Blog fresh and timely.

As my incredible good luck would have it however, I’m joining the great folks over at TrueBloodNet.com. They are in a much better position to stay well-staffed and well-informed-and to serve you all things True Blood while they are fresh. I’ve followed their work for years and I’m really impressed with their genuine love of  True Blood, their commitment to excellence in all they do to bring you great  True Blood news as well as “fangtasy,” and especially by their awesome welcoming attitudes and offers of assistance. Though I may not be new to the blogging world I am a newbie at TrueBloodNet.com and I’m very, very excited about it.

Closing up is not easy to do, as The True Blood Blog has from Day 1 been a labour of love, but my choice is to close down in the next week.

I hope you’ll join me both at TrueBloodNet.com and at either of my entertainment/personal websites at Forever A Fangirl and The Love You Make.

It’s been my pleasure to write the True Blood Blog and to meet some awesome Truebies along the way. I’ll be seeing you, hopefully sooner than later!

Warm regards,

Cyn McCrackan

True Blood Recap - 'I Smell A Rat'

True_Blood

There's something very depressing about watching one of the best characters on True Blood spend an entire episode preparing for his death. Now obviously Eric Northman is going nowhere, but there was a genuine sadness to seeing him make preparations anyway. Meanwhile everyone's going crazy as always and no one knows what Russell is going to do next. And humans hate vampires more than ever again. Good thing the weres are still hidden in this world, or they'd have to deal with this too. Oh! And Sookie Stackhouse is a fairy.

That's right, they start the episode with her revealing the fact she's a fairy. She says that's lame, but girl, you better go read some real fae stories right now and rethink that. They're always powerful, ruthless, and old in a way that makes vampires look like naughty children. Bill tells her that all the fairies are dead because vampires killed all of them; they're irresistible to vamps (and other supes, honestly). This of course freaks Sookie out because it would mean Bill and everyone else that has shown interest in her is all about the fairy blood, but Bill guarantees her he loves her for her. He may be telling the truth about that, but he's still lying to her about why he met her in the first place, so that's going to bite him in the butt for real. Eric shows up to try and say goodbye and force him to tell Sookie the truth, and then runs off to mope and get yelled at by Pam. Eventually Sookie makes her way to Fangtasia and Eric kisses the hell out of her. Wow, it has to be said, that was a pretty passionate kiss. Pam tells Eric to use her against Russell, and he refuses because he totally loves her secretly (because of fairy blood?), and then changes his mind when she brings up his beloved Godric. So he throws Sookie in the dungeon. Oooh that won't go over well.

Everyone's hanging out at Jason's house this week, since Sookie is hiding from Russell and Tara just saw Franklin get blown to bits in front of her. They "clean up" after Franklin's death very poorly and then Tara sees Bill and freaks out. She tells Sookie more of the truth about what happened to her, including being taped and kidnapped and raped, and how Bill didn't lift a finger to help her. That's a very reasonable thing to hate him about, Sookie. Tara gets close to throwing an ultimatum out at her best friend. Then she mourns with Jason and he goes through like five cases of PTSD all at once, and she kisses him like she's always wanted to. Jason does one of the few decent things left and tells her he killed Eggs, but honestly sometimes you don't need to tell everyone everything, Jason. Because now Tara's going crazy again in an all new way and it'll come down on your head, handsome. Jason follows this up by being awesome when Bill yells at him for losing Sookie, and he revokes Bill's invitation. YEAH. Then Jason finds out that Crystal is a werepanther. Nice. Intense day for him, huh?

Meanwhile in other stories Hoyt breaks up with Summer and declares his love for Jessica. She's shaken up because people put a burning cross outside her house, and she's been flirting with Tommy Merlotte. But Tommy attacks Hoyt outside and she saves him with vampire blood and tells him she loves him. Speaking of the Merlottes, Sam flashes back from his angry attack to the time he killed two people. Woooow, way to go dark with the sweetest character on the show! He was a jewel thief to get money for Merlotte's and then his girlfriend betrayed her, and he accidentally shot her. But actively shot to death her boyfriend. He gets all guilty over beating up Cal and everyone's being weird around him for it. Guess there's a Mickens in Sam somewhere.

Lafayette decides to save Cal because he might not survive getting to the hospital and gives him V. Cal really hates that because he's a werepanther and weres hate vampire stuff. Jesus gets intrigued by the V and even though he was like ew drug dealer before, now he's like let's do it together. So they get high and look through Jesus' past somehow and he's got black magic blood just like Lafayette. So he is something of a witch! Also Arlene spends most of the episode being awful, and as usual she has the kindest guy in town loving her. She finally tells Terry the baby isn't him, good for her, and he proves to be as awesome as we expect by saying he wants to take care of her and the baby anyhow. I'll admit, it made me tear up a bit. Terry is so well done. But Arlene wants to lose the baby and goes to wiccan Holly for help. Uh oh! Meanwhile psychotic Russell gets a male prostitute that looks kind of like Talbot and murders him so he can be with his imaginary lover while he dies. Greeeat.

Only two more episodes left, and the showdown between Eric and Russell seems to be coming up. Maybe everyone will band together to help like they did with Maryann!

True Blood is on HBO Sunday nights at 9 PM EST.

The True Blood Series Summary

The True Blood series has done well since it was first aired on September 7, 2008. Since then it has received awards and critical acclaim. It caught on with audiences for a few reasons. First, people have become infatuated with vampires over the last few years and True Blood offers a raw look at these types of characters. In addition, because it is on HBO it is uncensored and the writers and producers can add a lot more excitement, sex and blood than it could if it were on network television.

The true blood series features supernatural characters. Sookie Stackhouse is the show's main character. Besides being a waitress at the local bar she is also a mind reader. So, she does not feel like she can connect with normal humans. She ends up getting involved with the vampire, Bill Compton. As the main characters develop their relationship, the viewer can see into the world of vampires and the supernatural.

The first season of the true blood series began with concerns of the death surrounded by Sookie's brother Jason. Though he is slightly suspected, no one who knows him well in town, thinks he had something to do with it. Soon, Sookie and Jason's grandmother are killed as well. It was later revealed that the murderer was a man engaged to another waitress. Merlotte's named Arlene and was killing women he considered "fang bangers." The first season also focused on the relationship between Sookie and Bill.

The second season of the true blood series included two main stories. First, when a 2,000 year old vampire named Godrick ends up missing. Erik, another vampire with a darker side than Bill ends up enlisting the help of Sookie help him find them. In addition, the second season also introduced a woman named Maryann who hypnotises the whole town in the hopes to capture the town's bar owner.

The third season of the true blood series premiered on June 13, 2010. It introduces werewolves and is lightly based on the book "Club Dead". In addition, the family heritage of Sookie is revealed.
